layers of advertisements in the metro station. love.
We started out at Printemps, a French department store. We didn't do any shopping but I grabbed a few perfume samples that I keep in my journal for emergencies (like waiting for the metro longer than 3 minutes. if you've been to paris you know what i mean).
next we went inside the galeries lafayette to see the amazing art nouveau ceiling designed by georges chedanne. i wish we had department stores like this at home.
the highlight of this walk, however, was the opera garnier. THE opera house. here's a shot of the exterior, it was beautiful. i think as a whole the building was ok but once you get up close and see all the tiny details its simply amazing. lots and lots of gold. i loved these statues:
then we actually got to go inside and wander around. the inside was even more incredible.

Printemps is where I got you that orange skirt and those matching dresses.
ReplyDeleteThere is an old department store site on Union Square in San Francisco that is the closest I've seen to this. It used to be.... "City of Paris". No joke. Grandma used to take me there for special occasion shopping. It went out of business, but because of the great atrium, they saved the building and put something else in there.
So when you get to Mont St. Michel, be sure to have crepes at La Mere Poulard. It's an institution. Send Grandpa the bill :)
