chartres and the good samaritan

monday may 7.
For fhe tonight we went to an awesome fireside with the Paris ward. The speaker was a professor from BYU speaking about the plan of salvation and how it is told through the stained glass windows at Chartres cathedral. I was so excited because we had just been there and seen those windows! The overall message was that the restoration of the gospel was exactly that-a restoration of truths that were understood by the early Christians but lost over time.
At Chartres, there is a window that tells of both the Creation of Adam and The parable of the Good Samaritan. You can see it here. Now why were these two stories put together? Well, the Christians during the middle ages understood something that most people today do not. When Jesus taught the parable of the Good Samaritan, it was an analogy for the plan of Salvation.
Instead of hearing it from me, since I would no doubt mess something up or leave something important out, I recommend that you read Brother Welch's article here. It was a fascinating presentation and I learned so much, hope you read and enjoy it :)

xoxo Heather
