1. Cathedrale Orthodoxe Saint Nicolas
This is the largest orthodox cathedral in Western Europe. It seemed very out of place in Nice but it sure was gorgeous. It's not open to visitors, we couldn't even get near it because there was a gate with a security guard, so we walked around the block and up the hill to try and get a better view. We ended up scaling the outside of a mosque to get a picture (I didn't realize what it was until after.)
On the way to old Nice it started raining. We took cover in the Tourism Office and had a little picnic there until the rain stopped. We tried braving the storm but it was freezing! Everyone inside the Tourism Office was laughing at us because we were screaming so loud.
This is kind of a dumb video but I thought it was funny to watch all the people run by. After rewatching the video I thought it looked like our friend John at 0:49, and then we showed it to him later and he confirmed! haha
(ps. i love the internet at home! i can load a video to youtube in 2 minutes rather than 3 hours!)
2. Old Nice
Once it stopped raining we walked down to Old Nice. I really liked it because it was so colorful and had a rustic Italian feel to it. On the main strip there are markets that change throughout the day from antiques/flea markets, to flowers and produce, to handmade jewelry and art.

more fun flea market stuff. |
After checking out the flea market we just wandered through the streets and alleyways and took lots of pictures. Everything was so picturesque. I especially loved the lines of laundry hanging out to dry.
Next we went up to Castle Hill. There was an elevator so we didn't have to climb all the way up but the operators were really creepy and kept breathing into the intercom to scare us...Weirdos..
As soon as you get out of the elevator there are some awesome views of Nice. However the castle is not there anymore.
Next we went to the beach, we could hardly believe that it was raining only a few hours before. We had so much fun swimming in the Mediterranean, it was so warm and the waves were tiny.
in a perfect world, the 'no swimsuit' dress code would ONLY apply to this little boy and not the gross old women on the beach. |
We took the wrong bus home but found some pretty things along the way. Getting lost is always fun :)
xoxo Heather
